AFS Logistics named a top company for women to work for in transportation

A gender-diverse leadership team, opportunities for professional development and competitive compensation make the company an employer of choice

SHREVEPORT, La. (Nov. 2, 2022) – For the second consecutive year, AFS Logistics has been named a 2022 Top Company for Women to Work for in Transportation by the Women in Trucking Association (WIT). This award recognizes the third-party logistics (3PL) provider’s commitment to a culture and benefits that enable women to maximize their potential. The award was presented by Redefining the Road, WIT’s official magazine.

At AFS, women contribute at every level, including the executive and senior leadership teams, and account for 56% of the total global team. AFS offers flexible scheduling and work requirements, competitive compensation and a quality benefits package that includes paid maternity leave.

“The women at AFS have an invaluable impact on our business, and we are committed to ensuring all of our teammates, including women, have access to the support, career tools and benefits they need to realize their full potential in the workplace and beyond,” said Sharmen Pennington, vice president, human resources, AFS. “From our executive leadership to our interns, it is essential that women at AFS have the opportunity to advance their careers and benefit from outstanding female mentors.”

Among those mentors is Chief Analytics Officer Mingshu Bates, whose leadership of the company’s analytics team recently earned her recognition as a winner of the Women in Supply Chain award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive. Bates built her team at AFS from scratch and oversees the quarterly release of the Cowen/AFS Freight Index, which combines massive historical data with current macro- and micro-economic factors to carefully evaluate, select and build predictive models.

AFS was named a top employer for women in transportation through an evaluation based on criteria set forth by WIT. The nomination was then validated by an industry-wide vote of more than 22,000 transportation professionals who ultimately selected AFS as one of this year’s top companies.
