UPS Peak Season Surcharges Announced

As customary, one has followed the other. UPS announced peak season surcharges June 25th after FedEx extended theirs from earlier in the year. UPS, however, is taking the lead on releasing their Holiday Peak Season Surcharges – and there are some BIG changes as the carrier looks to reset the baseline for post-pandemic demands.

Take the Large Package Peak Surcharge for example: if you have shipped “more than 10 packages that require Additional Handling or Large Packages during any week after February 2020” (pre-COVID levels), your rates will jump 27% from $31.45 to $40 per package starting July 4th and then again on October 3rd, when it skyrockets to $60! FedEx Oversize will remain consistent at $30 until further notice, but we expect it to increase to similar levels during the Holiday Peak Season.

The same logic will apply to UPS Ground/SurePost and Air Residential when we hit Holiday Peak Season in October. If you have shipped more than 25,000 packages in any week after February 2020, rates could jump to as high as $5.15 and $6.15 respectively.

We’re anticipating that FedEx will make a similar announcement soon, most likely in September, to mirror the UPS changes on Holiday Peak Season, so stay tuned. In the meantime, contact our Parcel team for assistance in evaluating the impact this could have on your shipments.

ATTENTION

AFS is directing carriers and customers to direct all inbound invoices to [email protected] or via established electronic submission, such as EDI or eSubmit to avoid processing delays due to the impacts of the COVID-19 countermeasures and service interruptions at the United States Postal Service.

Carriers should contact Carrier Support via email at [email protected] in lieu of calls. We have added additional resources and later hours to assist you and email will serve as the method for fastest response. Please send an aging report with your inquiry so that we may provide you the most current status.
